Budget Reform or a different kind

On one of the many trips to the flea market I found a tiny yellow box that looked like a mustard spice tin. Only this tin had holes in it. I had no idea what it was, but saw the potential for a face on the box.
On a subsequent visit to the flea market one of the ladies that works there explained to me that the little yellow boxes are part of what was known during the 1930’s as a “budget bank”. This popular depression era savings system was designed to help people save money for different monthly bills. Each box was used to collect money for things like rent, food, charity, etc. I have transformed these savings soldiers into kinetic sculptures with a little attitude. It’s my version of budget reform.

I have listed several of the JunkHead Budget Banks on
Etsy. Check it out!

Trash or Treasure?

It's all in the eye of the beholder as they say. For me there's nothing better than rummaging through boxes of stuff at a flea market or tag sale. Boxes of bits, random pieces, interesting tools and hardware, it's the stuff I use in my art. Part of the perfect days of last weekend was finding a treasure trove of useful things at the tag sale at the Ashfield fair and the next day at a big flea market in Hadley
